Dr. Yusuf Emre Akgündüz graduated from Utrecht University with a bachelor’s degree in Economics in 2008. He earned his master’s degree in Economics and Social Sciences in 2009 and his Ph.D. in Economics in 2014 from the same institution. He began his professional career in 2014 as a post-doctoral researcher at Utrecht University before serving as a researcher at the Netherlands Bureau for Economic Policy Analysis (CPB) between 2015 and 2016. In 2016, Dr. Akgündüz joined the Central Bank of the Republic of Türkiye as an economist, where he served until 2019. He then continued his academic career as a faculty member at Sabancı University. Following his return to the Central Bank, he held the positions of Chief Advisor and Executive Director. His academic research focuses on labor economics, development economics, and applied microeconometrics. Dr. Yusuf Emre Akgündüz was appointed Deputy Governor of the Central Bank of the Republic of Türkiye on May 9, 2026.
